Where is Blackthorn Bellydance in Kelowna?

Level One and Two classes are held at DanceForce (1774 Baron Road), near Costco. Level Three classes are at DanceForce and Cross-Train Fitness (140 Rutland Road South).

Can I take classes even if I've never danced before?

Yes! Almost all styles of bellydance, including ATS®, are based on a woman's natural movements, such as swaying and bouncing the hips. Of course, putting in practice time is necessary, too. ATS is about group communication through movement, so dancers are always supporting and learning from each other, as well.

Do I have to show my stomach?

Absolutely not. Most beginning students wear tank tops or t-shirts to class. After a few classes, a few sessions, or even a few years, some students choose to fold up their tank tops, or to wear cropped cholis in class, but it's not a requirement. Bellydance tones the core muscles, plus many women gain new confidence from dancing, too.

Am I too old? Too out-of-shape?

The women in my classes span a wide range of ages, fitness levels and backgrounds, but we all have fun dancing together! Women can learn to dance at any age, and belly dance will help you get in shape, too. While we do sometimes work up a sweat in class, bellydance is a low-impact form of exercise, and we stop for breaks to discuss new moves - and grab a sip of water, too.
